Use Nizoral is an antidandruff shampoo. The active ingredient Ketoconazole 2% inhibits the growth of yeast and other fungal infections. It also is known to assist in the regrowth of hair for men suffering from Male Pattern Hairloss and is therefore popular with use in conjunction with hairloss medications. Nizoral's effect on the scalp is long lasting and even after being rinsed off, its active ingredient keeps working for several days. This means that it doesn't have to be used every day, making it cost effective.
Application Shampoo twice weekly for 2-4 weeks the once every 1-2 weeks. Apply to wet hair and scalp and leave in contact 3-5 minutes before rinsing thoroughly.
Side effects Nizoral Shampoo causes minimal skin and scalp irritation. The adverse effects reported by patients treated with Nizoral Shampoo consisted mainly of: greasy hair or scalp (1.2%); dry (brittle) hair or scalp (0.9%); irritation (0.5%); burning sensation and dryness (eyebrows) (0.2%).
Precautions Irritation may occur when the shampoo is used immediately after prolonged treatment with topical corticosteroids. If a reaction suggesting sensitivity or chemical irritation should occur, use of the shampoo should be discontinued. Due to the teratogenic nature of the active ingredient, ketoconazole, the use of the shampoo is not recommended in pregnant or nursing women except under the advice of a doctor. Clinical data on the use of ketoconazole shampoo in children under 12 are not available; therefore, such use is not recommended except under the advice of a doctor.
